The first low cost airlines to fly into Sofia are Wizzair www.wizzair.com and Skyeurope. It is expected that more airlines will commence operations in the next 12 months

Sofia’s airport is located ten kilometers east of the city center. It is a fully serviced modern Airport with all the usual facilities.

Important Note
It is not recommended to change money at the airport because not only are the rates really bad, it is a sad fact that people are cheated and short changed so use the banks in the city.

Airport Transfers
When arriving at the airport you have several options:

Meet & Greet
We provide a meet and greet service for only 15 Euros and you will be taken to your hotel or accommodation by an English speaking driver.

Buses The public bus 84 runs between the airport and the Sofia university (Orlov Bridge), with several stops on the route. Tickets cost 0.70 BGN and can be bought from the kiosk near the bus stop or directly from the driver.

Taxi OK Supertrans Taxi are the only Taxi company we recommend to use from the airport.

Important Note on Airport Taxis Be very careful with Taxi touts and other people offering ad hoc transport servicesA number of taxi’s operate with illegal meters and typically you will be charged at 5 times the normal rate.

Public Transport
The Sofia public transport company has an excellent English website Sofia Transport. The transport system consists of trams, buses, and trolley buses and one subway line. Public transport runs daily from 5 am until 11.30 pm (buses), midnight (trams), the subway runs from 5 am until 11 pm; on Fridays and Saturdays until 11:30 pm. After 11:30 pm taxis are the only means of transportation.

Tickets
Since 18th of June 2006 fares are:
Single ticket 0.70 BGN Sold by driver 0.80 BGN Multiple and other ticket options are available, Single trip tickets are sold at kiosks and newspaper stands at the major stops or by the driver of the vehicle.

Important Note
You have to validate the ticket using the metal punchers located near the windows.

You will find 3 types of pay phones in operation. For the coin phones you need 50 stotinki tokens, which can be bought at many kiosks. And there are card phones of two types: Mobika (blue phones) and Bulfon (orange phones) with cards for each ranging in price from 4 to 25 Leva. They can be bought at certain shops, kiosks or post offices.

For international calls you may purchase an Orbitel card, see www.orbitel.bg and for low cost calls. There is a local dial-in number, no incidental expenses, ready to use after purchasing. You get the Orbitel card in many shops all over Sofia and you can use it on every landline phone, including public phone booths. Other low cost phone card providers are Nexcom, www.nexcom.bg.
